Honor &
Renewal
Gallery

A gallery to honor those who came before us & materials that were repurposed

hout2.jpg

A testimony to the God
who honors what others overlook.

The God who doesn’t discard.

Who loves and embraces us,
even in our mess.

And chooses to restore and renew.

Embroidery: Reading woman

I found this beautiful, skillfully made embroidery in a thrift shop. When I saw it, I was struck by the legacy it carried. As artists, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us — not only the famous, but also the faithful ones who created quietly and unseen. Like our grandmothers. They passed down a culture of creativity — not reserved for the celebrated masters, but open to anyone with hands willing to make.

From Bleeding to Blooming

There are too many stories woven into this piece to tell them all. But one stands out: God clearly told me to look for someone selling “15 or 16 frames.” I found an ad for 15 old picture frames, but I hesitated — because He had said 15 or 16. Over a week later, I came across the ad again and suddenly saw it: one of the frames was actually two, joined by a hinge. So depending on how you count, there really were 15 or 16. By then, the frames had already been sold — but a few days later, the seller contacted me saying: “For some mysterious reason, the buyer never showed up.” God works in mysterious ways. These frames now form the frame and doors in this piece — honoring how Jesus’ bleeding led to our blossoming.

Sixty cents. That’s what I paid for this beautiful piece of string art in a thrift store. Sixty cents — for hours of intricate, skillful work. Yes, it needed a good clean-up. But even more than that: it needed to be seen and valued. The artist’s name, address and phone number were still handwritten on the back — but no fame or online presence, Let it be a reminder: price is not the same as value. And in this case, the value is far greater than the price.

Just like in the Bible: When we give the little that we have to offer to Him and allow Him to use it, then He will multiply it and make it bear fruit. How beautiful and fitting that Holy Spirit lead me to these beautifully crafted unfinished quilt squares. The artist unfortunately passed away before finishing. But they have become a napkin and a fish in this Mixed Media piece. God will use what we gave Him. Sometimes even after we've already returned Home to Him.
