Creation

Place Your hands around mine

Shape the clay and heart alike

With our messy hands intwined

Joy will be our find

So let me be Your puppet
Teach me how to move as One

Attached by strings of trust
Filled with laughter, love, and fun

Prophetic art as super power

There are so many benefits to creating art together with God.
Creating art is really good for anyone in general, but there's something incredibly powerful about doing it together with Jesus.

First of all: anything you do together with Jesus is more powerful than when you do it by yourself. But secondly: creativity is specifically powerful in certain areas of our lives. Let me just name a few:

  • Creativity allows us to take risks, experiment and fail without any damage done. Because of this, it's an AWESOME way of training our ability to hear the Lord's voice and respond. We can learn to trust His voice in a safe place and later use it throughout our lives.|

  • Creativity has unique qualities for brain health and inner healing.
Whether we admit it or not: we're all scarred by life. We all need to process pain, hurt and disappointment. Creativity calms the brain and allows you to express yourself, even when you can't speak about it, or don't even really know how things are affecting you.

  • Creativity activates our intuition & makes it easier to connect to the Spirit.
Our current western society teaches us to let rational thinking dominate our life. Though we need rationality, the Bible also clearly shows that our rational brain isn't where we connect to the Holy Spirit. In fact: it can be a serious blockage. Creativity is one of the ways to guide our brain into a different, but also God-given, state of mind.
It's a very primal way of disconnecting from the daily hustle and reconnecting with both our own hearts and God's heart.

EXPERIMENTING WITH GOD

As Christians, when we create we're not just using the creative DNA God has given every human, but we can also connect The Creator Himself. It allows you to experiment with connecting to Him as much as you like, make mistakes and grow your confidence, without the risk of doing any harm.

When you want to learn to recognize His voice more than you do right now, you can easily practice this through creating. Hearing His voice for other people can be daunting and brings about the risk of offending of hurting people. Canvas, paper, dance, song, wood or fabric can't be offended or hurt. And God will never be disappointed when you are actively reaching out to Him.

God will often use the process of creating art as a learning curve for us. Creating art often exposes insecurities, misconceptions, and untended wounds, creating a safe place to work through them and have God do some deep work in our hearts and minds. Just you and God.

Any ability we learn and any characteristic we develop during moments with God is usually easily applicable in real life. The more you grow in confidence in hearings God's voice, the easier it is to prophesy over someone else. The more you develop patience or find freedom from perfectionism, the more this will translate into your every day life.

not good enough?

Creating comes in many forms: sculpting, painting, making music, fixing wires, inventing, woodwork, theatre, poetry, visual art, fixing cars, cooking, website programming, fictional writing, photography. We usually marvel at those with a creative gift, however just because you're not a prodigy in an area, doesn't mean your brain isn't wired to create. When we're creating together with God, the goal isn't to make something that's museum-worthy. The goal is to connect to Him and allow Him to work/speak through the process. It might be a little mind-shift, but it's Process over End result. Relationship over Perfection.

Just because you might not have that specific gift of creativity, doesn't mean it's not extremely beneficial for your brain and relationship with the Lord. We were designed to create. We simply aren't whole without it. Many non-sporty people work out regularly because they know their body needs it despite their limitations. Yet most people without a specific creative gifting ignore their need to create, simply because they don't excel at it.

It's not about excelling, it's about connecting, getting re-inspired, escaping the daily hustle, calming the brain, restoring, and when you do it with God: learning to connect with Him deeply and hear Him speak.
